Sing & Sound

Hummmmmmmmmmmm
vibe the vocal chords, vibe the soul.

If I met you on the street and you asked me what I do, I might say …

I cultivate the oldest voice in the room.

Sound is the way we find each other,
Song is the way we trust one another.

I am a frequent artist in residence in communities across the globe with a variety of musical invitations.

Kids Concerts

ShirLaLa brings music to its feet, story to life, and prayer into presence. Sweet and soulful, these shows are the embodiment of Jewish joy: Sing along, Dance along, Play along, Art along.

Adult Concerts

Often paired with Saturday evening's soulful Havdallah ritual, Shira’s concerts feature brilliant musicians and sound healers. Our music is immersive and interactive.

SongCircles and Musical Meditations

All song sessions sing to the moment, letting joy/grief move through and giving voice to the heart’s yearnings. No musical experience necessary to raise this collective spirit.

ShirLaLa Award-Winning Recordings

ShirLaLa launched in the early 2000s as my personal brand of experiential art education. The recordings were an emulation of my childhood holiday celebrations when the house was filled with company, and each guest held a song sheet in hand featuring one tune after another to weave the holiday tales into bright harmonies and collective song. As a classroom educator, I quickly realized the need for a soundtrack to guide my students and their families through a holiday experience at home.

In 2002 my nursery school students became the ShirLaLa singers. I brought in a sound engineer and producer and we recorded three holiday albums: Shabbat, Passover, and Chanukah, right there in the classroom.

ShirLaLa has provided a curriculum of embodied storytelling, joyful Jewish expression, and most importantly a playground for the learning and engagement of now more than two generations of children and their parents. Most recently featured In FX’s new thriller “The Patient,”. Fun!
